AFRICAN SPEAKER BUREAU | CURATED FOR STANBIC BANK BOTSWANA
AI Delivers When People Trust the Change
Nine African practitioners for leadership teams preparing a bank for the next ten years - with its people at the centre of the change.
Banks across Africa now reach the same AI tools. What separates them over the next decade is what their people do with those tools, and whether colleagues use them with confidence or with fear. In a country where a bank job is among the most valued jobs a person holds, the word AI lands differently at the front line than it does at the executive table. Colleagues hear a question about their future. When that question goes unanswered, people comply quietly, and the technology delivers a fraction of its value. The voices on this page have led the people side of change inside banks, telecoms, utilities, technology groups and listed companies. Each session is a working session on a question the leadership team carries. Speak So You Are Heard, ASB's ten-day leadership communication programme, completes the picture. Each day combines a short video lesson with a 30-minute live session. Cohorts mix senior managers with frontline colleagues, and at the end they present their own findings to leadership, for example on which client interactions AI should take over, and which must stay human. The speakers bring thinking from outside the bank, and the programme brings the thinking already inside it to the surface, in words leadership acts on.
About this collection
Every bank now reaches the same AI, and over the next ten years the difference comes from people who trust the change enough to use it well. AI makes an organisation faster at being what it already is. Where data is clean, decisions are clear and people speak up, it multiplies all three. Where colleagues feel uncertain about their future, it multiplies the uncertainty, and the investment shows up as licences in use and little else. Leadership teams at this stage carry two responsibilities at once: - They run a profitable bank that clients depend on today, - and they decide what the bank must become, while the AI tools themselves arrive through a wider group - and a fast-moving market. The part a country leadership team shapes directly is the human part. That includes how colleagues first meet the technology, what they hear about their roles, and which work leaves their desks. It also includes which client moments stay deliberately human, and whether the people closest to clients feel safe enough to say what they see. Each of the voices on this page addresses one piece of that work: - strategy across two horizons; - the fear underneath slow adoption; - the systems that reward old behaviour; - leadership development that changes behaviour; - decisions that travel through every layer; - leaders who hear the front line; - the client who judges the result; - the gap between how leaders see their leadership and how colleagues experience it; - a board that oversees the human side of the change as closely as the technology.
