On a Platform, Growth Is a Conversation

A complete model of internal communication, broken into ten dimensions, with a considered voice for each, and an honest view of where a bank in FNB's position would start.

About this collection

**In a platform business, internal communication is not a support function. It is where growth is decided.** When a bank grows through branches, communication is important but bounded. When it grows through a platform, the logic changes. Growth becomes the sum of millions of small interactions, and a marginal gain in how clearly people communicate compounds across the entire base. So does a marginal drift. The same mechanism that makes a platform powerful makes the quality of internal communication a commercial variable rather than a soft one. This is felt most by the businesses that carry the most weight. Where a single business unit is the engine of a larger group, the pressure to keep executing cleanly is constant, and the distance a strategy has to travel before it becomes behaviour is long. A direction agreed at the top moves through segments, functions, frontlines and markets, and at every handover it can lose a little of its shape. By the time it reaches the conversation between a manager and a team, or a banker and a client, what remains is often a version of the intent rather than the intent itself. The segments that grow through relationship depth feel this even more sharply, because there the strategy is carried in rooms, not in campaigns. A commercial or private banker who is trusted to do the work but not yet read as an authority in front of a client is a growth question, not a training one. And when a business is asked to hold purpose and return in the same hand, the two reinforce each other only when the people carrying both actually believe them and can say them clearly. None of this is a single skill. It is a set of distinct capabilities that most organisations treat as one vague thing called communication. We have separated them into ten dimensions so they can be seen, prioritised and built deliberately. What follows names each dimension, gives it a considered voice, and sets out, honestly, where a bank in FNB's position would most likely start. **The framework, named** This is the enumeration to place at the head of the speaker section so the ten dimensions are visible as a model.
