A Movement Holds Only If Its People Speak as One
A curated speaker group for a leadership team building the internal communication architecture that lets a shared direction travel across twenty countries, through networks that move by conviction.
About this collection
**In a movement built on conviction, internal communication is not a function. It is the architecture that holds everything together.** For an organisation of about fifty people working through networks across twenty countries, the dynamics of internal communication are different from those inside a large corporation. There is no distance to absorb a misalignment. Every signal is visible. Every inconsistency between what leadership says and how leadership behaves is noticed immediately, not by thousands but by the people closest to the work. That visibility is an advantage, not a weakness. It means the communication architecture can be built with precision. It means each dimension of internal communication can be addressed with the right voice rather than with volume. And it means the work of alignment is honest in a way that organisations ten or fifty times the size often cannot achieve. There is a structural dimension to this: When communication functions are positioned to distribute information rather than to shape meaning, a strategy arrives as a notice rather than a direction. People receive it, acknowledge it, and return to their work without feeling it belongs to them. There is a cultural dimension: In organisations built on technical excellence or deep programmatic knowledge, the instinct is to add detail rather than clarity. The capacity to listen upward, to let what the floor knows travel back to the people who decide, is usually the first capability lost under pressure and the last one rebuilt. And there is the measure that makes all of this concrete: The honest test of whether a direction has reached the network is not the briefing that took place. It is whether a network lead in Dar es Salaam, a programme alumna in Accra, or a deputy governor in Nairobi behaves as though the direction is real. When that behaviour has not yet arrived, the communication has not yet finished its journey. Our framework identifies ten distinct dimensions where this breaks down. The fouteen voices on this page address the eight we believe matter most for the Trust right now. They work at the boundary between communication and culture, between leadership behaviour and organisational meaning, and between strategic intent and the human conditions that allow that intent to travel.
