The Leaders You Need Are Already Here

A curated speaker group for leadership teams who suspect the talent is already in the building, and want to see it, grow it and keep it, rather than keep recruiting around it.

About this collection

**Organisations often treat leadership development as training. It is not just training. ** **It is nine different disciplines, and the bench stays thin when only one or two of them are being practised.** When a senior role is filled from outside, the explanation is usually that no internal candidate was ready. Sometimes that is true. Often it is more accurate to say that an internal candidate was ready but was never seen, never developed for the step up, or never trusted to take it. The talent was there. The system that grows it, surfaces it and keeps it was not. This is one of the most expensive quiet problems a large organisation carries. External hiring at senior levels is slower, costlier and riskier than promoting a known quantity, and every external appointment sends a signal to the people inside about whether their own growth is worth investing in. Over time, that signal becomes a culture, and the culture becomes a retention problem. The most capable people leave for the opportunities they could not see a path to internally, and the pipeline thins further. Our framework identifies nine dimensions where this is decided: how succession is governed at board and executive level, whether capable people are visible enough to be considered, whether leaders are being built to operate across many markets, whether the organisation grows entrepreneurs or only administrators, whether leadership can adapt through real change, whether the pipeline was designed to include everyone, whether there is a system for talent or only individual effort, whether leaders are coached or simply appointed, and whether the leadership being grown is the kind people actually trust and follow. Each dimension has a different cause and a different solution, which is precisely why a single leadership programme rarely fixes the problem. The nine speakers assembled here each address one of them, with specificity rather than inspiration. Together they make one argument: the leaders you need are almost always already here, and growing them is a discipline, not a hope.
