AFRICAN SPEAKER BUREAU | CURATED FOR SERITI RESOURCES

The First 155 MW Is Operating. What Will Make the Next Phases Work?

Seriti has brought a utility-scale wind farm into operation while its coal mines continue to supply a large share of Eskom's coal. Nosipho Siwisa Damasane has held responsibility as a CEO, COO and board chair where results depended on organisations she did not control.

On 31 July 2026, 25 turbines at Ummbila Emoyeni began commercial operation: the first 155 MW of a programme Seriti has since taken to R25 billion of announced investment commitments. The electricity serves Seriti's own mines as well as other contracted buyers, and it reaches them through generation assets, a transmission station built with Eskom, the national grid and a set of commercial agreements, each held by a different party. The next phases raise a practical question: how does a leadership team keep responsibility clear when the organisations contributing to one result have different owners, obligations and ways of deciding? Nosipho has spent her career on that question. She brings it to Seriti as a working session built around one decision Seriti chooses.

About this collection

Seriti Green has built its operating leadership around the next stage. Chabisi Motloung became its first Chief Operating Officer in February 2026, appointed as projects moved into operation, and a Chief People Officer followed in August. By October 2025, three 155 MW phases, 465 MW in total including the first, had reached financial close. Seriti Green has its own board and outside shareholders, with Seriti Resources as its majority shareholder. The coal business carries its own commitments to Eskom and its own operating pressures. Mike Teke describes the group as an energy business that continues to produce coal, so both carry the strategy at the same time. The first phase gives Seriti's leaders something rare: a recent, successful delivery they can examine while it is fresh. Which decisions moved quickly? Where did ownership stay clear across Seriti, Eskom, contractors and communities? What has to be kept as more people, sites and partners join the work? Those questions belong to Seriti. Nosipho brings the experience of having asked them as an executive with results on the line.
