About Neil Bierbaum

Neil Bierbaum is an executive, leadership and team performance coach, keynote speaker and author based in Johannesburg, South Africa. An ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC), he helps leaders and teams navigate radical uncertainty by developing an emergent-order mindset—moving from trying to control everything to creating the conditions where the right outcomes can emerge. He has coached from CEO level down and works with organizations across Africa and beyond. A former award-winning features writer and founding editor of Directions and FHM South Africa, Neil later served as managing director of an internet services company. He brings a commerce background and formal study in psychology into his coaching. In 2024 he completed the MPhil in Leadership Coaching (cum laude) at Stellenbosch Business School, receiving the Top Achiever award and the Prof M. Ungerer award for research. Neil authored 'Practical Mindfulness: Master Yourself. Master Your Life' (with Dr Colinda Linde). He also created The Man Matrix, a model describing four stages of maturity for men, used in his Coaching for Men work and in talks on leadership and relationships. With 30+ years of personal practice in meditation and mindfulness and 20+ years as a coach and trainer, he blends rigorous thinking with practical tools and grounded stories to enable lasting shifts in mindset and behavior. His delivery style is calm, clear and scenario-based—more workshop than hype—leveraging coaching conversation, practical exercises and examples from journalism, startups and executive coaching.
