About Songezo Zibi

Songezo Zibi is better known as the Chairperson of the powerful Standing Committee on Public Accounts in Parliament, but he has had a stellar corporate career across car manufacturing, mining, financial services, and media. He is an author of several books on politics, economy, and society. His career evolved at renowned international companies including Volkswagen, Xstrata PLC, and the Barclays Africa Group / Absa Group. He is also a former Editor of Business Day. Songezo is one of South Africa's foremost public intellectuals, a well-known writer, and a leader in society. His experience spans internal communications, organisational development, brand transformation, product positioning, and executive leadership across multiple African countries. He has multi-dimensional, integrated insight into leadership, strategy, governance, and political economy — and his presentations identify and fill the gaps that audiences did not previously know existed.

Key message

Songozo Zibi challenges audiences to think deeper and better about long-term strategic considerations. The environment in which leaders operate is not a distraction from strategy; it is the strategy. Governance is an operating discipline, not a moral exercise. Africa is not too complex to read; it is too often misread. Leaders who understand the system get better decisions, better teams, and better outcomes. Strategic judgment under institutional complexity is a learnable skill, and Africa needs more leaders who have it.
