About Sthembiso Phakathi
Sthembiso Phakathi is an organisational transformation strategist, leadership adviser and author with more than two decades of experience helping organisations align strategy, culture and leadership for sustainable performance. His career began in engineering before moving into banking, strategy consulting and executive advisory across some of Africa's largest organisations, including Absa, Deloitte Africa, KPMG and Eskom. He held senior roles including Director of Human Capital at Deloitte Africa and Group Head of Organisational Effectiveness at Absa, where he led enterprise-wide transformation across organisational design, operating models, culture renewal, executive alignment and workforce optimisation. Sthembiso now leads SP Enterprises, an advisory practice focused on helping executive teams build high-performance cultures, lead complex transformation, and close the gap between strategic intent and organisational execution. His work spans financial services, mining, energy, telecommunications, state-owned companies and the public sector across Africa. His proprietary framework, REPAIR, HEAL, RENEW, provides a structured approach to organisational transformation: diagnosing underlying fractures, restoring organisational health through leadership capability and trust, and building the disciplines required for sustained performance. Sthembiso is the author of From Fragile to Fierce (xTL Media Publishing, 2026), a practical guide for leaders who want to build organisations that thrive in uncertainty. He lectures on executive leadership programmes at leading business schools and is the founder of the Single Dads Network, an initiative supporting fathers and championing responsible masculinity as a leadership practice. "From Fragile to Fierce" (xTL Media Publishing, June 2026) He delivers in English and isiZulu.
Key message
Organisations do not transform because someone develops a better strategy. They transform when leaders change how they lead, how they build trust and how they shape culture. Culture is not what the values poster says. Culture is what leaders reward, tolerate, model and measure every day. People do not resist change. They resist uncertainty, inconsistency and poor leadership. Transformation succeeds only when strategy, leadership, structure and culture evolve together. Healthy leaders build healthy families. Healthy families build healthy communities. Healthy communities build healthy organisations.
